The location of Narail District, established 40 years ago in 1984, is in Magura District’s south, Khulna District’s north, Jessore District’s west, and Gopalganj and Faridpur Districts’ west. The land of 967.99 km2 has 3 upazilas under 2 municipalities (Kalia and Narail Sadar). They are further split into 18 wards and hundreds of villages.

The Narail Area Guide found that multiple rivers flow through Narail, namely Nabaganga, Chitra, Bhairab, and Madhumati. Moreover, the district is crisscrossed by uncountable haors, beels, etc., a notable beel being the Chachuri Beel.

A Zamindar’s name is where the district’s name originated from. A market formed at Roopganj was established by the zamindars who named it after another zamindar. They also founded a thana or post office near the area during the British regime. Afterward, they brought more developmental changes in Narail to make it modern and advanced, promoting cultural activities, educational upgrades, and sports.

The Palace of Narail was among the largest Zamindar mansions built in Bangla. But it was all looted after the partition. However, some establishments are still intact, bearing witness to the British Raj, like the Kaalibaari, Shibmondir, and the Chitra River’s Bandha Ghaat. Today, they serve as renowned historical landmarks in the district.

As a mostly rural area, the district does well enough in providing the necessities of life for its people. There are great schools and colleges, namely Tularampur High School, Narail Govt. Victoria College, etc.

Besides, hospitals like Victoria Specialized Hospital are gaining a good reputation for their quality services. Furthermore, the construction of the Padma Bridge has sparked industrialization in Narail, which is why the real estate market has been flourishing in the area for a couple of years.

Lastly but importantly, Narail offers great facilities in terms of transportation and communication since Narail town acts as the district’s hub of road transportation. The regional highways conveniently connect it to Jashore and Magura.

Additionally, several ferry ghats in crucial points of the district have also eased traveling within different parts of Narail. Plus, the people can go out of the division by using the railway services.
