Naogaon, Rajshahi
Today, Naogaon District is called Bangladesh's breadbasket. It is located in the center section of Bengal's ancient Varendra region and covers around 3,435.67 square kilometers (1,326.52 square miles), with approximately 80% of the land under agriculture. The soil in the region is a rich inorganic soil called loam.
The district's overall population is around 28 lac, with farmers being the majority of the population. The percentage of people who are literate is 72.14 percent. Today, it is the top-ranked district in terms of rice output and has the most rice-making mills of any district.
Naogaon has emerged as the primary mango harvesting hub in the country. According to data from Bangladesh's Department of Agricultural Extension, Naogaon alone produced over 3.33 lakh tonnes of mango in fiscal 2017-18, significantly above Chapainawabganj's output of 2.74 lakh tonnes and Rajshahi's 2.13 lakh tonnes.
The district is divided into 11 upazilas. The main tourist attractions of this district are Rabindranath Tagore’s Patisar Kachari Bari and Islamganthi Jame Mosque located in Atrai Upazila, Sompur Mahavihar, Satyapirer Bhita and Holudbihar Dhibi located in Badalgachhi upazila, Mohisantosh Mosque, Agradigun Mound, Jagaddal Bivar and Badal pillar located in Dhamoirhat Upazila, Dubalhati Prasad located in Naogaon Sadar upazila, Chauja Mosque and Kusumba Mosque located in Manda upazila and Kalibarta Pillar located in Patnitala upazila.
Naogaon is directly connected with the rest of the districts of the Rajshahi division via major highways. So, the communication system of Naogaon is great. As Naogaon is considered as the major hub for mango harvesting in Bangladesh, the roads are also good, so that the harvested mangoes can very easily be transported to the rest of the country.
