South Surma is an important metropolitan police station in the Sylhet district of Bangladesh. It is under Sylhet City Corporation. The economic importance of the area is immense as it is well connected by river, land, and rail. Sylhet district is famous for its pristine green environment, hilly surroundings, and vibrant culture, which make it a popular tourist area in Bangladesh. South Surma of this district is known for its lush greenery, tea gardens, and hilly terrain. All the wards and unions of this area have electricity facilities. The law and order situation in the area is normal and satisfactory. South Surma thana was formed in 1983 and the thana was converted into upazila in 2005.
