Shahporan, Sylhet
Shahporan is a metropolitan of the Sylhet Sadar upazila. So, it comes under the administration of the Sylhet City Corporation. The total size of this thana is 63.56 square kilometers. It was established in the year 2011.
It is situated slightly at the eastern part of the Sylhet City Corporation. It has Kotwali Thana at its west, Surma Thana and Gopalganj upazila at its south and Bimanbandar Thana at its north. Total 6 wards of the Sylhet City Corporation are situated in the Shahporan thana which are wards from 31 to 36.
Some important institutions of this area are Shahporan Mazar, Jalalabad Cantonment, Chest Diseases Hospital, Jakaria Resort Park and DID, Shahporan.
The economy of Shahporan and its surrounding area is mainly agriculture-based. But the Surma River is very close to the thana, so a lot of people’s livelihood depend upon this river as well.
The transportation and communication facilities are good, but there are still major rooms for improvement like more developed roads, good broadband services, commercial facilities etc.
