Located on the northern bank of the Padma River, Rajshahi is the divisional headquarters of Rajshahi Division and the administrative seat of both Rajshahi District and Rajshahi Metropolis. It is a metropolitan city as well as a major city and administrative, commercial and educational center of Bangladesh. Rajshahi city was established in 1634. It became a municipality in 1876 and a city in 1991. Rajshahi city has an area of 37.34 square miles and a population of around 10,85,000 as of 2022.
