Barisal Division is known for its rich natural resources, abundant waterways and vibrant culture that plays an important role in the economic and cultural life of Bangladesh. The region is known for its flat and fertile land, with its confluence of rivers, canals and estuaries. It is part of the Ganga delta and one of the most fertile regions in the world. Barisal Division is located in the southern part of Bangladesh and is bounded by Dhaka Division to the north, Chittagong Division to the east and the Bay of Bengal to the south. It is a low-lying delta region traversed by numerous rivers including the Padma, Meghna and Kirtankhola. The distribution is about 13,644.85 square kilometers. It is one of the divisions of Bangladesh which consists of six districts. The districts are: Barisal, Barguna, Bhola, Jhalkathi, Patuakhali and Pirojpur etc. People of different religions, castes and professions live together here. There is a mix of religious and ethnic communities. Although the division is predominantly rural, urbanization is happening at a rapid pace which is commendable. About 93,25,825 people live here.
Agriculture dependent region Barisal division mainly has paddy, betel nut, jute, guava and various fruit plantations. The fertile land here makes it a major agricultural region. Besides, fish farming also plays a special role in the economy here, especially shrimp farming. There are also unique sectors of the economy such as rice mills, handlooms and various small and medium industries

The Barisal division has progressed well in the education and medical field and is improving day by day. Especially in the field of education. Barisal University, Patuakhali Science and Technology University is one of them. Also, the communication system with Dhaka city is quite good, one can come to Dhaka for emergency treatment.
The transport system, especially the road network has been greatly improved. And it has improved after building new bridges and highways here. The biggest thing is that Barisal's communication with Dhaka and other regions has increased significantly due to the new bridge built over the Payra River and the innovation of Padma Bridge. Government and non-governmental organizations are gratefully working on development projects to improve various infrastructure, education, health services and disaster preparedness. Despite the challenges posed by its geographical location, it remains an important part of Bangladesh's overall development.
