Kotwali is the Principal Thana or Sadar Thana of Dhaka District. It is bounded by Keraniganj Upazilla in the south, Chawkbazar Thana in the west, and Bangshal Thana in the east. It is right next to the Buriganga River, and the renowned Mitford Hospital and Dhaka National Medical College are only a short distance from Kotwali.
Though it has a small area of only 0.67 sq./km and around 50,000 residents, Kotwali is one of the busiest parts of Dhaka.
