Dhaka District is a large district of Dhaka Division formed on the banks of Buriganga River. Dhaka is the capital and largest city of Bangladesh. The journey of Dhaka city started at the beginning of the seventeenth century. The earlier name of Dhaka was Jahangirnagar. The area of Dhaka city is 1550 square kilometers. Currently, about two crore people live in Dhaka. Also, everyday people from different districts of the country enter Dhaka for different jobs. Bangladesh has no other city as busy and commercial as Dhaka city.
The historic and prestigious city is the largest city in terms of population and one of the major cities in South Asia. It is a city that thrives on the combination of commerce, industry and culture. Dhaka is also called the city of mosques and the Venice of the East.
