Shantinagar, Dhaka
While it isn’t often discussed, Shantinagar is one of the oldest and most renowned areas in the Dhaka Division. The Shantinagar area guide shows that it is currently part of Dhaka South City Corporation. It is also one of the busiest residential and commercial areas in the neighborhood.
It is part of the Paltan Thana, and its neighboring areas are Bailey Road, Paltan, Shiddeshwari, Rajarbag, Kakrail, and Malibagh. Like its neighboring areas, Shantinagar is a locality filled with housing, schools, colleges, mosques, commercial places, and other attractions.
The Shantinagar Bazaar is one of the oldest bazaars in the neighborhood, and it was established in 1952. It had land of about 7.5 Bigha (around 150 Katha). Now, the bazaar area is about 100 katha with more than 600 shops.
Along with many amenities, Shantinagar has gained many high-rise apartment complexes over the years. However, most housing in the area is not affordable, with the average rent for a 3-bedroom apartment of 1200-1400 sq./ft being BDT. 35-40 thousand.
Nevertheless, people like to move to this area for better living facilities. Residents believe it is a safer area to live in, with residents under surveillance 24/7. Some even go out for a late-night stroll without any worry.
In addition, Shantinagar offers easy access to broader transportation facilities. Whether you want to travel to Gazipur Jamuna Future Park or Sadarghat, you can take different routes from Shantinagar.
The area has the Income Tax Commissioner’s Headquarters, Central Police Hospital (CPH), various Police Quarters, the Detective Training School, etc. There are other significant landmarks as well, such as the Jonaki Cinema Hall, Eastern Plus Shopping Complex, Al-Amin Twin Tower, Quantum Blood Lab, etc.
