Wari, Dhaka

The Wari area of Dhaka is very important and vibrant in terms of residential, commercial, and cultural aspects. It is a bustling area with residential buildings, commercial buildings, government and private offices, super shops, shopping malls, restaurants, and educational institutions. It is surrounded by important areas like Motijheel, Gulistan, Gopibagh, Iskaton, Ramna and Puran Town. The history of Warri is very old, and the socio-economic and cultural background of the area has been diverse since the Mughal and British rule. The architecture, traditional structures, and cuisine of this area are simply unmatched. It is considered the first planned residential area of Dhaka. Despite the narrow lanes and crowded areas, the area is carefully designed. So here you will find a combination of traditional old look and modern lifestyle. The modernization of this area started during the British period. At that time it was a large settlement of wealthy, businessmen, and educated people. Considering the commercial importance, aesthetic housing projects, various business establishments, apartments, and development projects are coming up here. The entire area is divided into two parts - Old Wari and New Wari. The area has several mosques, temples, and churches, each of these places of worship are architectural landmarks. A wide range of products are available here from vegetables, clothes, and electronics to spices. Being located almost in the center of Dhaka city, the communication system here is quite good. But this area also has problems like traffic congestion, pollution, and unplanned infrastructure.
