Jamalkhan, Chattogram
Jamalkhan, a land of 0.78 sq km, is the 21st ward under the Chattogram City Corporation. Its administrative activities fall under the coverage of Kotwali Thana.
According to the Jamalkhan Area Guide, it is one of the most historically rich areas in Chattogram. It is as if each corner of the place will tell you a tale of the old times. For example, the now Moitri Bhaban set up by the Hindu Foundation once used to be Horikholar Math.
In 1851, the first cultural conference of the then East Pakistan was held there. In 1851, the first cultural conference of the then East Pakistan was held there. Cultural connoisseurs from both parts of Bangla participated in that conference, sparking a sense of freedom in the minds of the East Pakistanis for the first time.
Just like in the past, the ward has an enriched present, too. It is a pioneer of urbanization in Chattogram City. At first, it was the Healthy Ward during its first mayor’s tenure. Years later, it became a part of the Clean City, Green City initiative. As a result, you will spot yellow dustbins at different corners of Jamalkhan.
The small lamp posts on the Cheragi Pahar roads resemble the times of Kirkwood, McKenzie, Oldham, and other British rulers. During their regimes, the city used to have a dreamy vibe coming off its gasoline lights, just like the lamp posts do now.
In addition, Dr. Hashem Square on Jamalkhan Road was established to pay tribute to Dr. Hashem, who was popular in Chattogram for his humanitarian contribution to society as a doctor. Then there is the renowned Dr. Annadacharan Khastgir Girls’ High School. Dr. Annadacharan was known as the forerunner of Chattogram’s renaissance.
Now, if we are to talk about how the area treats its community, Jamalkhan will satisfy us in that regard as well. It is one of the most highly developed in the city, packed with a resident’s desired advantages and amenities.
From housing to transportation or schooling to healthcare, you name it, Jamalkhan has it. And if you are a traveler, you are sure to love it for its neat and natural environment with plenty of restaurants selling scrumptious food.
